Welcome kits for recently released certifications

In my role as MCP Aggravation Manager, I'm doing my best to think of new things to poast that will annoy certified professionals across the land and inspire a flood of angry commentary (and occasional intimation that I do not stand up to my pet cat*). Here's my next stab.

Delay in Welcome Kit Shipments: If you recently placed an order via the MCP site for any of the following MCTS or MCITP Welcome Kits, please know that fulfillment of your kit may have been delayed. We are working to resolve this issue and get your kits shipped as soon as possible. There is no action required; we will resume shipments as soon as we are able. Thank you for your patience.

OK, but for reals. You'll notice that some of these are BRAND new, or aren't even fully available yet - so for many of these there will be limited impact; hopefully the shipments will get caught up before the kits are even ordered. However, I know that at least a few of you HAVE been affected by this - and I'm really sorry if you experienced any inconvenience by this slow down. Our brand new program manager is getting all the details locked down on when/how these will be shipped to you - when I hear an expected ship date I'll certainly let you know.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 16, 2007<from MCP newsletter>  Update: Delay in Welcome Kit Shipment (Worldwide)
Per our announcement in the July MCP newsletter, welcome kits for several new certifications have been updated with a new look and their shipments have been delayed. If you placed an order, please rest assured that it will be processed and the kits will be shipped; no further action from you is required. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

*Richard, is the cat's name.

I hope you don't stand up to your cat. The purpose of a cat owner is to serve.

Richard can explain it  better than me :)

# re: Welcome kits for recently released certifications

It's really strange, but I did recieve the MCITP (general?) welcome kit, but the MCITP : Entrise Desktop Technician is still under way.

BTW. the same thing for the MCTS Windows Vista Configuring. I DID recieve the 'general'? MCTS welcome kit but not the Windows Vista Configuring kit.

When i ordered the kits it says TWO kits would be send : the MCITP and the MCITP Enterprise Desktop Support (same thing for the MCTS kits). About the MCTS kit i called the MCP Helpdesk a few weeks ago (or is it months ago now) but still didn't recieved the kits. Now i know why :)

# re: Welcome kits for recently released certifications

In the example of the: MCITP: Microsoft Exchange 2007 Messaging Solutions Administrator, if you pass the two ITPro tests but not the TS test (70-236) what are you besides one test short? Anything?

Also, do you have to *order* the kits or are they automatically sent as in the old days when you achieved a certification milestone (first MCP, first MCSE, etc). PS Dogs rule.

"..BRAND new, or aren't even fully available yet - so for many of these there will be limited impact.."

I guess the same reasoning applies for the problem with the Vista beta exam ;-) ... there are not too many people... limited impact LMAO

# re: Welcome kits for recently released certifications

Thanks for the info. FWIW, I hadn't noticed any delay; from memory it takes six weeks or so anyway. To my mind the most important thing is the online transcript so - as nice as it is to get - the welcome kit isn't IMHO someting that need arrive in any timely fashion. (Well, except for the wallet card, although my understanding is they don't list cumulative credentials anymore - I already have two, one for my MCP/MCSD, and another for my MCTS and I imagine I am going to receive a third for my recently-completed MCITP. That actually makes me less keen on the wallet cards now. I much preferred having one.)

# re: Welcome kits for recently released certifications

Actually, David, the wallet cards are cumulative.  They probably don't show both classic certs and "new generation" certs, but, for example, when you attain, say, MCPD, you get another card that has both the MCTS and MCPD logos. They do not show each certification area, however, which is fine with me.

# re: Welcome kits for recently released certifications

I just got my MCITP:Enterprise Support Technician and MCTS:Web Development Welcome kits today.

Now I have to carry yet another ID card.

There is enough room to include MCPD, MCITP, and MCTS on the same card - so why didn't they do it?

# re: Welcome kits for recently released certifications

Hi Trika,

I've not seen any Welcome Kit yet for my 070-540 exam which I took sometime last year. I've also already contacted my local service center, and they have re-sent my request for the Welcome Kit. But I understand that there is/was some delay with this specific kit amongst others. However, would you have any clue as to how long the waiting should continue?

It would be great to have an update on the status of the welcome kits you mentioned in this blog post. I believe it would also be a good idea to put more info on this over at the MCP site.

Thanks and keep up the good work,

Meile
